The approximately 1500 eggs that were made during the last 22 days (from 11 October (Columbus Day) 2 November (Election Day = The Day of the Dead) is still on display for one week only until 11-10-04. WHERE: St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery Cemetery Yard, 2nd Avenue & 10th Street, Manhattan (Take the N, R, 4, 5, 6 subways to 14th St., Union Square) WHAT WAS IT LIKE?: Many wonderful photographers documented this important project. You can see them here. WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE SKULL PROJECT? The intent and purpose of THE SKULL PROJECT is to create a skull egg for each and every person who has died in the Iraq war since the US invasion. To date there have been over 17,600 casualties from seventeen nations (see Stats page). In the mere span of 22 blustery fall days in splendiferous New York City, over a thousand people helped create some 1500 skull eggs. Concerned citizens from all walks, all faiths, all nationalities locals, tourists, students, moms, dads, kids, businesspeople participated. The completed eggs are remarkable, breathtaking, jaw-dropping AND beautiful in their own macabre way. A feat of beauty, and a feat of remembrance for those who have lost their lives. THE SKULL PROJECT in NYC has concluded it's 22 day run, but is not over! As soon as Paul Wirhun, the creator, has a chance to catch his breath, he will be posting the next phase of this project.
